Helping our own Americans

We have people without homes in many place in the South, and now the Midwest. My heart goes out to all those people who have lost everything. But wait, they are still here. They are alive and in finding Ralph Waldo Emerson's saying called Be Thankful, For every new morning with its light, For rest and shelter of the night, For health and foodm for love and friends, For everything Thy goodness sends.
It reminded me that despite the sorrow, there is light and many things to be thankful for.
But let's concentrate on helping these folks. Right now from what I gather, the best thing to do is send money to the Red Cross. Other types of donations will be needed in the near future but with entire towns devastated, there's no place to store stuff. So send the money. The Red Cross is a trusted organization and will get it where needed.

QuiltingCrazy

I now own a fabulous APQS Millennium. Does anyone want to buy a Liberty? She's just the baby version of the Millie. Anyway, the Millennium is on a Bliss system and moves so smoothly you can barely feel the weight of the machine. Fantastic! I been quilting some tops to send to people in our country who because of weather have lost everything. I've also returned to practicing quilting designs by doing them first on paper. Once the muscle memory is there, it is so much easier to quilt on the machine. So if any newbies are listening, do the work on paper first. Unless you like making lots of muslin doggie blankets, just go for it.
Cooked a new version of pulled pork yesterday. Cooked it in Dr. Pepper. Yes, the soda. Diet version. Can't say that it made it more flavorful or moister. It just tasted good. Will enjoy more today. The Tennessee Whiskey BBQ sauce made it taste even better. Just wish they wouldn't use the HFCS junk. I'll now have to write to them. I write to every company trying to get them to stop using HFCS. It's horrible to your body. Just plain junk.
Eat veggies and fruit.

Done With Eye Surgery

My right eye was done in March. Each eye is fully healed and I'm driving and existing without glasses. Neither require any pain killers. I could wear a tiny adjusted pair of glasses but I'm so close to 20/20 vision it's silly to even go there. Can drive anywhere I want to now! I sure got tired of getting lost before and quit going places. Now----no problemo.

Traveling in the South

We've just come back from being in Chattanooga, TN and Waxhaw, NC. Both states were bloomin' green. All deciduous trees are leafed out. Gorgeous. We were treated to some BBQ, fried green tomatoes, grits and so much more while visiting. Most of all, the hospitality of the people we met was tremendous. Absolutely fine. We were even trained to speak "southern." What a hoot!
Now home, it's time to do some serious quilting, cooking and sewing. Making hamburger steaks tonight. It's daughter's birthday which we've already celebrated over the weekend. But we're going to enjoy some real comfort food tonight. Hamburger steaks done right can be downright delish.
